Port Vila is a vibrant city with colorful markets, stunning waterfront parks, and tropical scenery perfect for running. 🌺 We laced up my shoes and set out to explore the city on foot, discovering hidden corners, banyan-lined streets, and local life along the way.

Running along Samoa’s coast, a tropical paradise
Running in Apia, Samoa, blended exercise with culture and coastal beauty. An 8K loop along the seawall passed cathedrals, tombs, and shady rain trees, alive with locals and ocean breezes. A 12K route to Vaiala Beach revealed historic churches, quiet streets, and turquoise waters, capped by a rainbow after rain.

From markets to beaches: running through the heart of Honiara
Running in Honiara reveals both city life and coastal beauty. A short loop passed lively streets, markets, and Holy Cross Cathedral, while a longer run west reached Vailala Beach’s quiet shores and friendly neighborhoods. From bustling wharfs to misty waves, each route offered culture, history, and authentic island charm.

Running adventures during Papua New Guinea’s Most Colorful Festival
We ran in Papua New Guinea's highlands at 1,700m altitude, between cheering locals (some still in face paint from the festival), pigs on the roadside, and dramatic lightning across the sky.

Why Manila runs early and how we joined the 6K sunrise rush
We laced up for a 6-kilometer route along the iconic Manila Bay and into the heart of the city’s historic streets. Between the golden glow of the sunrise, the smell of sizzling street food, and the unexpected mix of sea views, colonial landmarks, and bustling local life, this wasn’t just a workout.

In Sâo Tomé, an island which closely resembles paradise, we woke up with the sun to run along the coast, passing by fishermen villages with their Portuguese colonial architecture while the boats were coming back to shore.

A couple of unusual runs through a monumental abandoned railway station which spoke of other times, and along a wild coastline in Pointe Noire: an unforgettable run on a beach of wild beauty while the waves roared.

Run along the flooded shore of Lake Tanganika in Burundi
Right after sunrise we ran along the teeming shore of the epic Lake Tanganyika while local youths fished in the flooded “Avenue du plage” in Bujumbura, Burundi, before heading to the legendary source of the Nile!

The land of a thousand hills: Kigali International Peace Marathon
We conquered a few of the thousand hills of Rwanda during the 10k of the “Race for Peace” in the Kigali International Peace Marathon. A fast-growing event with a challenging course with stunning views over the city.

An adventure in the Pearl of Africa: the Uganda Marathon
We enjoyed the “adventure like no other” which is the Uganda Marathon, running up and down hills through red earth paths with lush vegetation and across the vibrant streets of Masaka while students sang.
