🏃♀️ Recommended Route: 4K Historic Loop Through Riga’s Old Town
If you’re traveling through Europe or lucky enough to live in Riga, Latvia, this scenic 4-kilometer loop offers an unforgettable run through cobblestone streets, river views, and centuries of history — all in under an hour.
I am talking from my own experience! This is the route we ran during our short stay in September 2023 and you can find a report of our run aquí.
🗺️ The Route
Starting from Raiņa bulvāris 33, this route loops through many of Riga’s most iconic landmarks:

➡️ 🏛 Latvijas Universitāte & Monument to Freedom
Begin your run beside the university and the Freedom Monument. The shaded paths of Parque Bastejkalna offer a welcome canopy to ease into your pace.

Curl into the cobbled lanes of Old Town past the Powder Tower—this part of the route is where breathable shoes y moisture-wicking socks are your best friends.

➡️ 🏰 St. Peter’s Church & House of the Blackheads
The views here are a runner’s reward. Expect some tourist traffic, so lightweight and flexible gear that keeps you cool while weaving through crowds is key.

➡️ 🛍 Central Market & Riverside Stretch
Head past the iconic market buildings toward the Daugava River. This is where the breeze hits, and your ventilated tank tops prove their worth.

➡️ 🌉 Riga Castle & National Opera
